Welcome to the new Oregon GSA Connect Website!
Many years ago a group called the Oregon GSA Network was a thriving organization that linked together the state’s GSAs. Together, they were able to come together for joint projects, learn about each other’s activities, and socialize. We’re hoping to recreate that same experience with this new website and a new name. We’re glad you’re here!
What we do:
Oregon GSA Network supports young people in starting, strengthening, and sustaining GSAs.
An Oregon Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) is a student-initiated and student-run club in a public or private school. It might fall under many other names (we've heard Queer Straight Allance, Sexuality and Gender Alliance, Spectrum, Diversity Club, etc.). The goal of a GSA is to provide a safe, supportive environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, queer (LGBTQ+) and straight ally youth to meet and discuss sexual orientation and gender identity issues, and to work to create a school environment free of discrimination, harassment, and intolerance. Research shows that all students is a school with a GSA feel safer than in a school with no GSA.
Oregon GSA Connects supports young people in starting, strengthening, and sustaining GSAs and builds the capacity of GSAs to:
Create safe environments in schools for students to support each other and learn about homophobia and other oppressions
Educate the school community about homophobia, gender identity, and sexual orientation issues, and
Fight discrimination, harassment, and violence in schools.
